Feeling Seen Is Crucial
Everyone needs to feel seen or heard in some way during their life. Can you image having absolutely no one to talk to or have for support? Maybe this has happened to you at some point and you can relate, or maybe this is happening and you don't even know it. What do I mean by that? Let's dig in...
We often wear a lot of masks in our day-to-day lives without thinking about it. The work mask, the society mask, the family mask, and sometimes, the partner mask. What does this mean? This means we can't actually be ourselves all the time in front of everyone and it's exhauting our nervous system. When do we actually get to take off all the masks and be ourselves? Share our deepest thoughts or secrets? Have a deep and meaningful conversation about life without offending someone? Having someone be interested in us without judgement or unwanted opinions? When we can peel off the outside masks, we can finally be seen for who we truly are. This is where we can finally relax to be in a safe and accepting environment.
Being seen can feel very scary the more masks we wear, but if we think about it, it just means that we are scared of being judged, or we have to stay in a certain 'persona' that is part of the task. It is possible that our true nature may have been rejected early in life (even childhood), and developed a fear of opening up. The good news is, the first person that will see us is inside of us. You will always be the biggest support system for yourself, and we often overlook this. When we start to accept ourselves, we can then accept letting others in to see us. Accepting ourselves is a step toward someone else accepting us. When we accept ourselves we don't have to wear masks anymore. We know in our heart that we mean well, treat others with kindness, and accept others differences. We realize that the same thing that scared us from being seen, prevents others from being seen. No one wants to feel judged, we all just need support.
As we find acceptance in ourselves, we will no longer tolerate being treated with less from others. Now we learn how to have boundries to protect our own wellbeing. The shallow conversations, or feeling ignored, fade away; not because they're not still there, but because we let them go. Grounding in ourselves in one of the most powerful things we can do everyday. What do you want to project to the world today to be see in a positive light? How can we make others feel seen and accepted too? Journaling is a great way to vent, plan, and reassess; and so is talking to yourself. That's right, you can feel heard just by talking to yourself or writing in a journal.
Being more open will also draw in more like-minded people. We when feel comfortable in our own skin, we start to shine brighter and more often. We can start to be the light for others to be seen too. Everyone needs to feel seen, valued, and accepted .
